The Apollo Civic Theatre has a history of youth programming that began in the 1980s and has continued to grow. Then known as the Berkeley County Civic Theatre, we launched our first youth programs after securing a grant to hold a theatre workshop — and the rest, as they say, is history.
In 2013, with the creation of Jr. version musicals, we added our Junior After School Program for grades 4–12. In 2023 we expanded again with the Just Kids After School Program, introducing students in grades K–5 to theatre. And in 2025 we launched our first-ever Homeschool Theatre Workshop. Although many alumni have gone on to work professionally in the performing arts, our programs have little to do with creating superstars — we are committed to a safe, welcoming space where kids of all backgrounds can find joy in the performing arts.
Our Programs

Junior After School
Grades 4–12. Year-round, full-production workshops with rehearsals after school, ending with a one-hour production on the Apollo stage.

Just Kids After School
Grades K–5. Younger students work with high-school peer directors and perform 30-minute musicals as the opening act for our Junior productions.

Homeschool Workshop
Grades 1–12. Our newest program (2025) meets during the day with a broad age range, ending with its own dedicated performance.
